5. A Grand Day Out: Endings and New Beginnings
Josh felt like he was walking on air. If the ride from Hastings to Brighton had been great, the ride back had been heavenly. It felt so good to finally be wearing his very own B&K outfit, his arms wrapped tightly round his Gran’s waist, the soles of his new ankle boots resting on the footpegs, the Norton throbbing between his legs.. And not needing to operate the gear or shift or brake, he didn’t need biker boots like Gran, he was in proper ankle boots: shiny red ankle boots with dagger heels. He felt like a new ….. a new ….. a new what? ‘A new man’ didn’t feel quite right. But if not a ‘new man’ what was he? The assistants at Fem-Me had been very hands-on, helping him tuck his little thing out of the way so that his new latex pants showed the best and tightest line. They weren’t content until he looked smooth down there like Gran with were no unsightly bumps: not quite a camel toe but close. ‘A new girl’, then? With his make-up, false eyelashes and nails, maybe. But his new blonde hair was decidedly androgynous. ‘A new sissy’?
What he did know was that this is how he wanted to be. If the assistants and photographer at Fem-Me called him a siss, did it matter. Perhaps he was a sissy. He’d always thought being called a sissy was a bit of an insult. But the pretty girls at Fem-Me casually referred to themselves and each other as ‘sissies’ as if it was normal or a compliment. Girls calling themselves sissies seemed a bit strange to Josh but he’d be very happy to join that club if he could look like them. They’d addressed him as ‘sissy’ when they were fitting his plug. They’d checked with Gran first after agreeing that he wasn’t yet ready for what they called a ‘Hummingbird’. After his initial discomfort at being invaded like that – he’d never had someone even touch his bottom before – he’d grown used to its presence and it made the vibrations of Norton feel even more lovely. Perhaps that did make him a sissy if he liked something there.
“Your Mum is in for a bit of a shock Josh,” said Vanessa after they’d dismounted. “You see, the only thing I have really told her is that you have gone blonde. Never mind, it won't be the first time your Grandma has been in trouble with your Mum.”
“But what about all those photos, Gran? Does Mum know about them?”
“One thing at a time, darling.”
“I never expected them to take so many. Will I get copies?”
“I’m sure you will. They’ll look great in your scrapbook.” Vanessa knew that in a few months’ time, there would be more than enough copies for Josh to put in his scrapbook. If the photographer received sign-off from B&K, they’d be all over the magazines come the Autumn. Poor Josh still had that ingénue naïvety that made him so charming and sweet. If everything thing went according to Hester’s plan, he was soon going to need an agent and she knew the perfect person for that role: herself. But first, she needed to sort things out with Marion. Richard could come later. He’d understand. He’d be supportive. He might even be envious of opportunities beckoning Josh. Ah well! She loved her gorgeous Grandson.
6. The Master Plan: A New Face
Crunch time had arrived. It was always a challenge presenting in the Board Room with the London skyline provided such a distracting backdrop. Hester stood and fired up her PowerPoint presentation. She felt nervous. She might be Head of Marketing but she needed the support of the rest of B&K Cosmetics’ senior management team. At least she felt dressed for the occasion. It was disappointing how few of her colleagues were wearing B&K today. She blamed the unseasonably warm weather. It always felt strange to be planning next Autumn’s promotions when it was still only October and they’d not yet got a read on the current Autumn push. And there were still Spring and Summer to go before this campaign was going to hit the stores, the magazines and the advertising hoardings. Some of the details could be tweaked and finalised but the campaign needed to start with a face, and she reckoned she’d found that face.
“A year ago I saw a promising young man in our Brighton store,” she began. “He was with one of our regular customers. After she’d bought a pair of black leather pants, I was able to retrieve her details from our Loyalty Card database. Her name is Vanessa McVane. She lives in Hastings.” Janice Pearson raised her hand. “Yes, I’m happy to take questions as I go through. What’s your question, Janice?”
“Did she buy anything for the boy? That’s normally a good sign.”
“Thank you, Janice. No. But she did let him go through he boy racks and allow him to try on some pairs of pants. He had several ventures to the fitting room. He also tried on some courts and ankle boots in the footwear section. But no, she didn't buy for him.”
“Make-up?” interjected Clarice Partridge.
“No, Clarice. No make-up.”
“Pity,” said Clarice.
Hester was concerned about the bumpy start. The absence of any visit to the Cosmetics area wasn’t going to help her case. She stepped on the presentation. “I reached out to Mrs McVane after her visit. She was very happy to talk. Apparently she’s been providing support to the boy since he was about thirteen.”
“Support?” queried Clarice.
“Yes, support. Nothing abnormal. All healthy stuff. Letting him read her fashion magazines. Letting him try on her clothes and shoes. Letting him come with her on some shopping trips and store visits.”
“And you’re sure he’s a sissy?”
“Given his tendencies, I would say ‘Yes’. A closet sissy, perhaps, but definite sissy potential.”
“Potential?” challenged Clarice again with another of her abrupt, one word questions.
“Yes, potential. He was only sixteen last year and Mrs McVane has been nervous about pushing him. His own father apparently showed similar signs when he was younger but never took the sissy route, though of course things were rather different back in the eighties. However, she feels her grandson is different. I think so too.”
“Hmm,” mused Clarice, unconvinced.
“I’ve had the B&K Scouting Team tracking him. We have been monitoring his social media for the past year and though his footprint is tentative we have begun primary contact. Ladies, meet the next face of Bergman Knightley. Let me introduce you to Joshua McVane.” She pressed her clicker.
There were sighs and gasps as Joshua’s face appeared: “Oooh!” “Yes!” “I see what you mean.” And, most tellingly, “Yes, definite potential,” from Clarice.
“Joshua’s own Instagram is pretty vanilla but we can see from his likes where his interests reside. Our filters and algorithm indicate a high probability of sissyhood. We estimate at least eighty-five percent.”
“Confidence interval?” queried a positively verbose Clarice.
“Around fifteen percent.”
“So there chance could be as low as seventy percent that he’s a sissy?” questioned Mabel Morgan, the Head of Finance.
“It doesn’t quite work like that Mabel, but yes, there’s obviously some chance that he’s not. However, I would prefer to go on the guidance of Mrs McVane. She’s one of our loyal customers and she will have seen enough B&K Boys while shopping to recognise Joshua’s leanings.”
“Very well,” said Mabel. “He certainly looks good. I assume he’s still, how shall we say, unpicked or unplucked?”
“Yes, Mrs McVane is confident he’s not yet indulged his leanings even since turning sixteen. He’s very close to his Grandma which is a good sign. They talk a lot. So my plan is to engage Mrs McVane to recruit Joshua. He turns eighteen next year on the first of January. She will offer him a feminisation session at Fem-Me as her birthday gift. She will see how he reacts but is confident that he will accept. During that session, we will sign him up and also carry out a shoot. Given the proposed shades for next Autumn, I’ve suggested to Mrs McVane that she gets Joshua to go blonde but there’s still time to finalise those details. The first step is to formally enlist Mrs McVane. Although she hasn't done the training, her experience with Joshua indicates that we should appoint her an acting B&K Host for the duration of this assignment and attach her to the Scouting Team for some hands-on management.”
“I’m sure she would appreciate that,” interjected Janice cheekily.
“Yes, Janice,” said Hester wanting to stop any ribald diversions. She wanted to get closure. “Ladies, I am proposing we take Joshua McVane as our face of B&K for our next Autumn campaign. A new face. A fresh start and a fresh sissy. Ladies, do I have your support or do we need to discuss further before going to a show of hands? ”
