Final Inspection

She felt nervous. She always did. No matter how many times she’d done it, she couldn’t help herself. Her knees felt a little wobbly. They’d been fine for the last half hour but as the moment approached, she couldn’t help herself. It was always the same when she went with a young man. Especially a nice looking young man like Edwin. Would he ask her, or would she have to ask him? Would he have the courage to ask the direct question? She hoped so. He had such lovely kissable lips. After all their talking, she hoped she’d convinced him. Would he take the plunge? She wanted him. She wanted him badly. A handsome energetic young man. Just what she needed.
She hoped he wouldn’t be a shy boy? So many of the boys she went with were shy. Not too shy to look, but too shy to ask. He seemed tongue tied. Perhaps she was going to have to take the lead. He’d seemed so receptive when they’d walked together. He seemed to like it when she took his hand. He seemed to like holding her hand. He held on to her and clutched her tightly when they talked to other girls. Girls younger than her. Girls a lot younger than her. Pretty girls. Girls closer to his age. Was Edwin attracted to them? She thought so even though he was very hesitant talking to them. Would she stand a chance given their rival charms?
The moment was fast approaching. He still hadn’t asked. She led him across to the foot of the spiral staircase. He followed tamely. Was he still too much of a puppy, or would his animal instincts kick in? She stopped and put her arm round his shoulder. She squeezed her thighs together trying to control her desire for him.
He wasn’t short. A bit shorter than her, but she did rather tower over him in her 5” heels. Maybe he felt intimidated? Was he going to say anything? Was he going to ask? Naturally she’d say yes if he did. Her knees might be wobbly, but she could feel him shaking too. The poor lamb was nervous. He’d probably never been this close to a woman like her before. A woman of her age. A mature woman, as she liked to think of herself. A woman who’d lived life as it was meant to be lived. A mature woman in a silk blouse and PVC pants. Was it her PVC pants that had first drawn him in. PVC pants and high heels. It was now or never.
“So Edwin, what do you think? Are we going to do this thing?” He opened his mouth but no words came out. He just stared at her, apparently in awe. She would have to take the initiative. “I'm sure, Edwin, that you know the old rhyme:
"Will you walk into my parlour?" said a spider to a fly;
"'Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy.
The way into my parlour is up a winding stair,
And I have many pretty things to shew when you are there."
"Oh no, no!" said the little fly, "to ask me is in vain,
For who goes up your winding stair can ne'er come down again."?'
"Yes, Miss Bradley."
"Well, I think you have to decide whether you want to go up those stairs to our transforming room. All our new B&K boys have to go that way. I can assure you, you will never want to come down again. The high of becoming a B&K Girl will stay with you forever."
"Yes, Miss Bradley. Please can I go up? Now I've met Stephen and Liam, I do so want to become a B&K Girl. "
"You're a wise boy, Edwin. You won't regret it. You’ll fit in just perfectly at Bergman and Knightley. Now let's go up and get your hair and make-up done. I'm sure we have shopgirl outfits in stock that will fit your lovely figure."
"Thank you, Miss Bradley. Thank you for inviting me for interview and showing me round."
“I’ll introduce you to Miss Henderson and Miss Warner. They’ll take you through the first steps. They’ll want to start by tidying and taming that unruly hair of yours. It does look sweet, but I’m sure they’ll have far better ideas about improving your look. A Bergman girl must always be exquisitely groomed. And remember Edwin, it’s your decision.”
“Yes, Miss Bradley. Thank you, Miss Bradley.”

Three hours later, Edwin waited patiently for Miss Henderson and Miss Warner to return. He leaned back in his chair admiring himself in the mirror in B&K’s exclusive Members Only Salon. He couldn’t believe the change that the beauticians had accomplished in such a short time.
“I think Miss Bradley has excelled herself this time. She really has an eye for talent,” he heard Miss Henderson say as she approached.
“He’s such a beauty,” agreed Miss Warner clutching her iPad. “Are you happy to approve Miss Bradley’s finders bonus? I can put it through now, if you’d like.”
“Let’s complete our final inspection first, although I don’t anticipate any problems.” Miss Henderson circled round Edwin while Miss Warner hovered in the background. It was obvious to Edwin who was in charge. “Let’s see. Hair colour excellent: glossy chestnut is much more becoming than his natural dull brown, and his pixie bob with bangs is superb. You were right, it suits his face perfectly.”
“I thought it would accentuate his swan neck,” Miss Warner added.
“Yes, especially with the pendant earrings. A nice long dangle. What was it like having your ears pierced, Edwin? Not too painful?”
“It was fine, Miss Henderson,” replied Edwin although he still felt a bit sore and was only just getting used to the weight of the diamanté sparklers.
“Good. Eyebrows possibly slightly overdone. They’re fine for now but a little thinning may in order.”
“Noted, Miss Henderson. I did wonder about having them tinted chestnut too, but thought it best to try him with a more dramatic line.”
“Yes, I can see your reasoning. I adore his false eyelashes. Be a good boy Edwin and flutter your eyelashes.”
“Yes, Miss Henderson.”
“Oh, how adorable. You’ll have customers queueing up to be served by you.”
“Thank you, Miss Henderson.”
“I didn’t think you could make his lips look better Miss Warner, given their natural lush cherry red, but orange tangerine gives them a special allure.”
“Thank you, Miss Henderson,” said Miss Warner.
“Do you like your new look, Edwin?” asked the senior manager.
“Yes, Miss Henderson. I love it,” replied Edwin.
“Well Miss Warner, I think that’s emphatic conformation that Edwin’s passed his final inspection. You’ve done a great job here.”
“Thank you Miss Henderson,” said a relived Miss Warner.
“Now, Edwin, Miss Warner is going to take you to Wardrobe. They’ll get you out of those horrid chinos and fit you with your new Bergman and Knightley uniform.”
“Oh goodie! I can’t wait to get my B&K uniform. I want to find out what it’s like wearing latex and heels.”
“My! Whatever happened to the shy boy that Miss Bradley told us about?”
“I’m a B&K girl now. I know it’s what I want to be. I’m so excited.”
“Good. Miss Bradley was right: you’ll make an excellent addition to the B&K team. Miss Warner, please take Edwin to Wardrobe. And please confirm Miss Bradley’s bonus. She’s found another gem.”

Now that tribute. This year is the 25th anniversary of the moment i passed out in front of the TV when i first saw the video for Steps Deeper Shade of Blue track.
In the past Claire, Faye and Lisa had all worn leather, Claire especially seemed to wear it a lot. (she is my favourite, I might have mentioned that before.)However this time they went full in and slipped into Latex space uniforms reminiscent of the Thunderbirds Tv show.
Every time I see this I smile because this is the dance breakdown version and if you look closely you can see everyone, mostly Claire struggling to get the dance right. Ah the power of editing 🤣😂.
Anyway 25years ,what a thing to set before a teenager.
